Music Connects Cultures

A pioneering group of 25 musicians from 17 countries around the world will be taking up residency here in Fort Collins for one week from October 16-23. OneBeat is a groundbreaking international network of leading artistic, technological and social innovators in music. Now in its sixth year, OneBeat is cultivating a collaboration of over 150 artists from 44 countries and employs original music as a potent new form of cultural diplomacy. This program is innovative in how it moves through this planet and connects musicians on opposite sides of the world. It begins with hosting artists in an opening residency, where they have time and space to find a collective goal and sound together. They then go on tour for two weeks, performing and hosting workshops.

Idiosyncrasies in each musical tradition create risky, wholly unique musical works. This creative process exemplifies how people from dramatically distinct musical backgrounds can negotiate differences and find an interplay of cultures that maintain the integrity of each tradition while crossing cultural and political divides. You can see this collective in several locations around Downtown Fort Collins and CSU all week long! Learn more at 1beat.org.
