Green River – Spread The Word

Self described as an edgy reggae-rock band aiming to inspire harmony and positivity, Green River’s recent EP release, Spread the Word, takes nice themes like unity in the community or finding inner peace and combines them with gut-blowing guitar riffs. This isn’t your mama’s Bob Marley. This is loud.

Starting out with “All These Years,” This song sets the tone for the rest of the five-song EP—an unarguable energetic combination of hard reggae, ska, rock, funk and hip-hop. It’s speedy, and contrary to the vibe one would expect with reggae songs called, “Get Along” or “Potential”—where you will hear more traditional reggae rhythms and emotional, breezy interludes in, but the in-your-face lyrics about avoiding self-worship and stop burning bridges will keep you on your conscious toes. The EP slows down a little with “Spread the Word,” but amps up the energy with a sort of hip-hop vibe throughout. Overall, Spread the Word, packs a punch but you’ll be a better person for it.
