2.5 out of 5

The self-titled debut from dust:orbiter, one of Denver’s newest bands, is difficult to pin down on the first listen. It is elusive of any specific genre, combining elements of noise rock, softcore and post rock to create an ominous clusterfuck of somewhat frustrating electric fuzz tangents and slow-building grunge ballads. Prominent influences of Radiohead, Nirvana and Pinback permeate the album, allowing front man Brian Lenherr and drummer Tim Schwarz to explore dark instrumentals and somber vocal arrangements. “Numerals” and “Shore” are intriguing and well-developed highlights to an otherwise interesting debut from dust:orbiter.
