In his first EP since 2007, Dave Tamkin’s Cedar skillfully illustrates memories and talented acoustic musicianship, despite its brevity. The lyrics are personal and descriptive, bringing us to wonder about the story behind “Fly Me” and about the significance of Cedar Street. Opening track “Little World” stands out from Cedar, a track nearly absorbed by Luke Halpin’s extraordinary mandolin picking, reminiscent of that of Nickel Creek. The EP fluctuates between acoustically-based storytelling and rock with sounds that mirror those of Rusted Root, The Beautiful Girls or Rob Drabkin, for the local fans. Though based in Chicago, Illinois, Dave Tamkin has affection for and roots in the music scene of Northern Colorado.
