Blue Taboo

Jared Janzen, Kyle X Petty, Julian Ferrara and Will Brauch make up this eclectic progressive rock band which has been working hard to define their evolving sound.  Part of the progression has been trying new ways to connect with the audience, including a unique arrangement heard at their recent ‘Rock For The Cure’ set at Everyday Joe’s Coffeehouse. There, Jared’s guitar had the syncopation and layers similar to a good poem, which was fitting as Will was reciting an original poem.  These four musicians are constantly trying new arrangements with a confidence that will only lead to more original, exciting songs in the near future.

The Gremlins

Max and Riley Williams, along with Aidan Hilinski, are coming up on their 7th year as the Gremlins.

Riley will be getting into the high school jazz scene next year, and currently ZARO percussionist Oscar DeZoto’s jazz teachings provide the steady beat.  This trio has the raw qualities which the best of the rock and the blues lay bare.

Aidan has been a student of bass teacher Roger Barnhart, with Max on electric guitar being mentored by John Franzen at Spotlight Music.

Their favorite venue to play locally – Avogadro’s Number.  As Max points out, “That feels like Fort Collins to me, artistic.”  Recently the Gremlins have been dipping into funk.  “We are writing original songs, and they are really good songs. They’re fun. We’ve had this break, and we found a new sound – a new fire.”

Elevation

Elevation. Could there be a better name for this Front Range a cappella trio from Rocky Mountain High School?  Precision a cappella music is not an easy feat, and these three choir standouts, Rachel Morley, Haylie Patrick and Katherine Walter, have put in many hours making original compositions with voice alone.  That includes Rachel’s beatboxing, which is much more difficult than she makes it look.

Harmonizing is taken to a new level as they continue to push the limits of what is possible as a trio.  April is a busy performance month for them so make the time to elevate your senses with these uber-talented performers.
