There is a lot of room in the craft beer world to get creative with the ingredients that are put into beers. From Rocky Mountain Oysters to Green Chilli to blueberries, craft brewers have definitely been experimenting with new and different beer ingredients. This year at the Colorado Brewer’s Festival, you will have the chance to get adventurous and taste some of those strange beers Colorado has to offer.
COBF spokesperson Marty Jones said “ We tried to make it a more thoughtfully assembled beer list, so it covers a nice mix of beers across the state with an emphasis more on unexpected beers from the festival.”
During the Neighborhood sessions at Washington Park, there is an array of different beers for the adventurous beer drinker to try. CooperSmith’s Pub is upping the ante and bringing their “Sigda’s Ghost.” This beer is not for the weak willed. It is their green chili beer kicked up a notch with ghost peppers, habaneros and Santa Fe red peppers. If you are looking for something a little fruitier, Horse and Dragon is bringing their “Golden Ram” beer, a banana Belgian ale. New Belgium is also introducing their “Hop Tart,” a sour beer with bursts of passion fruit, guava and pineapple. This is part of their Hop Kitchen series.
If you are looking for a more exciting beer adventure, The Summit on Friday night is where you want to be.
“For that person who is really after the unusual beers, the Friday night Summit is the thing for them. There are a lot of very thrilling, out there beers…it’s an added component for the real beer geeks,” Marty said.
Black Bottle is bringing their very Colorado themed beer; OG Kush, a barrel aged sour porter. New Belguim’s 2015 Transatlantique Kriek will only be at the Summit. This beer has wood aged Lambic with tart cherries from Belgian brewery Oud Beersel. Snowbank Brewery is also bringing their Chocolate Stout infused with chocolate from Nuance Chocolate.
These are just a few of the weird beers that will be at the Colorado Brewers Festival, Neighborhood and Summit sessions. Get adventurous in your beer drinking at the COBF and geek out with us.
