This month, two semi-trucks filled with peaches will make their way from Palisade, CO to Fort Collins in preparation for the Sixth Annual Fort Collins Peach Festival on August 20, 2016. Each summer, all four Rotary Clubs of Fort Collins come together to host the flourishing community event. Stemming from peaches as a popular menu item among the Breakfast Rotary’s attendees, the theme grew into a full-scale festival in which peaches inspired every aspect of the event. “Palisade is closer than most may think and people go crazy for peaches,” says Tanis Roeder, the Fort Collins Peach Festival Event Director.
The festival has come a long way since its first year (2011) in which 3,000 people attended. This year, around 20,000 attendees are expected at Hughes Stadium for a lineup of peach flavored events. The day begins with a 5K Walk/Run at 8 a.m. in which participants run on a dirt trail along the foothills behind the stadium. To sweeten the deal, peach pies will be awarded to the top three winners in each age category. Following the 5K is the Peachy Donation Pancake Breakfast featuring homemade peach syrup and pancakes among other delicious options such as Qdoba breakfast burritos and Chick-Fil-A biscuits. The Healthy Kids Fun Run will take place at 9 a.m. and will be one mile in length. The Fort Collins Peach Festival will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 6 p.m. with business and community vendors hosting booths throughout.
Entertainment will include typical festival events such as bounce houses for the kids, beer for the grown-ups, and live music throughout the day. She and I, The Robert Wilson Blues Band, and The Seers are the selected musical acts featured at the festival. The event will also feature some of Fort Collins’ best food vendors, such as food trucks Waffle Lab and Taco Stop, and Hog Wild BBQ. Frozen treats will also be among the vendors ranging from peach popsicles to TCBY peach frozen yogurt. For beer enthusiasts, the eight breweries featured in previous years will return once again to showcase their best peach-infused beers. Attendees can purchase a taster’s cup emblazoned with the Fort Collins Peach Festival logo to sample the brews and vote for their favorite. For those who are not into beer, there will also be peach margaritas featuring real Palisade peaches.
Parking at the event will be $5 for those who are not participating in the 5K and admission will be free. As the Fort Collins Rotary Clubs’ biggest fundraiser with plenty to offer the community, the festival will leave you feeling just peachy.
