Since forming in 2009, alternative rock band Post Paradise has been one of the most popular bands in Northern Colorado. The radio-ready alternative rock featuring a cello has inspired loyal fans who flock to their electric shows. Now, the band is set to release the “Side B” companion EP to 2015’s Bring It to Life (Side A) release, and fans will likely be thrilled.
As with previous albums, Post Paradise delivers alternative rock with a twist: there’s a cello. Whereas the cello is no longer a novelty in rock music, most bands use it to add chamber pop influences to the sound. Except for a few cello intros, however, Post Paradise deftly uses it as a rock instrument. It textures the music and contributes to melody significantly, while not feeling like a gimmick.
As is the case with many popular bands, what makes fans rabid may also be what turns some folks off. In this case, Post Paradise has a super clean sound that at times sounds formulaic. Corporate radio would love it, which makes it odd that their popularity is largely confined to Northern Colorado, especially with anthemic tracks like “Sharp Like Ours,” which culminates in a chorus of “Give me a reason to hold on. Don’t let me give up now.” Fans will surely offer that reason, so hang tight Post Paradise.
