The Fort Collins Lincoln Center recently announced their new season of shows which go on sale August 9 and kickoff in September.
“I am excited for Take Me to The River,” said Jack Rogers, Executive Director of The Lincoln Center, “because of the unique nature of the show — bringing together multiple generations of musicians.” The show, slated for October 26, features three Grammy-winning artists: William Bell, Bobby Rush & Charlie Musselwhite along with rappers Frayser Boy and Al Kapone. “It’s a chance to hear classic Memphis soul, and Delta blues with the region’s top MC’s,” said Rogers.
Opening the season on September 7 is the banjo duo Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn, who took home the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Folk Album. Of their last sold-out Lincoln Center performance Rogers said, “Fleck’s supreme mastery and technical wizardry was equally matched by Washburn’s dynamic stage presence.”
The genre-defying duo Black Violin storms onto the stage September 30. These classically trained violinists and their DJ mix hip-hop, rock and R&B music. “Black Violin performances are always fantastic,” said Rogers. “Where else are you going to see a group that has performed at a presidential inaugural ball and opened for the Wu-Tang Clan?”
The season is peppered with other musical acts like outlaw country artist Kris Kristofferson and jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval. Other highlights are the comedians Jim Breuer and Mike Birbiglia and two shows with cult followings The Moth Mainstage and PostSecret: The Show.
The nationally-touring Broadway shows Jersey Boys and Cabaret are also featured. “Although some may see Cabaret as a musical theater classic,” said Rogers, “in light of the state of the world, it is a devastatingly relevant work that will simultaneously entertain and provoke – which I think is the hallmark of great art.”
