In its eighth year, the Old Town Halloween Zombie Fest rises again in Fort Collins on October 21. Participants who purchase a wristband are eligible to crawl from shop to shop in Old Town and enjoy free drinks, food, and other to-die-for treats.
The event was started in 2009 by local non-profit organization Turning Point as a fundraising and community outreach opportunity supporting the work they do to help at-risk youth in Northern Colorado. Located at 1644 S. College Avenue in Fort Collins, Turning Point’s mission is to help youth and families struggling with behavior, mental health and substance abuse issues. 2017 marks the agency’s 50th year, and the multi-service center serves over 2,000 youth and families each year. 100% of the proceeds from the fans of the undead go directly to support programs and services to continue to reach more people in need.
Marketing and Development Coordinator of Turning Point, Scott Von Bargen said, “We are really grateful to have our event so supported by the City of Fort Collins and the Old Town Square. The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has been a real ally in helping us grow the event and work with us on ideas in the square and on the new stage.” The Old Town Square becomes zombie headquarters, where revelers will enjoy all-day entertainment from the stage, an Odell beer garden, onsite makeup artists, and more gruesome activities. A live DJ, flaming entertainers, costume contest, Thriller dance, and Zombie fashion show will keep the zombies preoccupied from their typical brain-eating, groaning and aimless wandering at Fort Collins’ biggest Halloween gathering.
The “Kidz Krawl” kicks things off with a family friendly crawl for kids and teens from 2-6 p.m. The Kidz Krawl wristband gets you five Halloween-themed stops of your choice featuring yummy treats, crafts and activities worth at least $20 for just $13. Face painting and makeup artists onsite along with kid appropriate music, dance acts, and more will keep your family’s happiness alive at this undead party.
“To work hard and watch this event become the biggest Halloween event in Fort Collins is remarkable,” Scott said, “and we could not do it without the generous participation of over 50 local downtown businesses that make the Zombie Crawl special.”
The Zombie Crawl wristband includes five stops that feature everything from food, cocktails, brews, ice cream, and pizza, to jewelry, art shops, and more for $17 advance or $20 day of. Join in on the crawl and the festivities in Old Town Square from 5-9:34 p.m. You can be reborn as a zombie at the event by getting your makeup done by one of ten professional artists from 1-9 p.m. Prices range from $10-$50 based on how extreme you want to look.
Scott explained, “For newcomers, it is a truly epic sight to see. Old Town Fort Collins is transformed into a menagerie of amazing costumes, people watching, dancing, music, and entertainment for all ages. Old Town comes alive in a very special way. Get your tickets early, it is going to be the best year yet!”
