If you’re seeking some live soul or rhythm and blues in NoCo, The Lincoln Center promises to deliver a historical night of just that on October 26 with Take Me to the River Live. Based on the award-winning documentary film and record of the same name, Take Me to the River is a live performance experience that features a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see Grammy award-winning R&B and soul legends William Bell, Bobby Rush, and Charlie Musselwhite. The film, which is currently available on Netflix, tells the story of American soul music, specifically reflecting on the heydays of Memphis soul. It details the recording of the Take Me to the River album that brought together iconic Memphis and Mississippi Delta musicians to record new collaborations with young up-and-coming artists.
Backed by an all-star Memphis band, the live show will highlight Bell, Rush, and Musslewhite individually, as well as pair them with rising hip-hop artists for one unforgettable evening. The show also features the Hi-Rhythm Section (27 Gold and Platinum records), Grammy Award-winner Boo Mitchell, award-winning director and Grammy Nominee Martin Shore, alumni from the STAX Music Academy, and special appearances from Academy Award-winner Frayser Boy, and Critics Choice Award-winner Al Kapone.
“Take Me to the River was one of the best things we saw at Bonnaroo 2014,” said Rolling Stone. Don’t miss your opportunity to see this revolutionary show celebrating the multi-generational and inter-racial musical influence of Memphis soul. Tickets start at $15 and are available at LCtix.com.
