With all the unprecedented natural disasters occurring around us, in Colorado, we can feel like the eye of the storm. However, we don’t want to just feel safe, we want to give back and help those in our country who have been affected by floods, fires, hurricanes, and terror.
This humanitarian feeling found life in the Rocky Mountain Music Relief (RMMR) group who is partnering with MusiCares to present several benefit concerts with the goal of raising $1 million to give back to musicians in affected areas. Spawned from a poignant Facebook post after Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, the group has spread to include several local music industry professionals including Chris K., Dave Perlowski, Cass Clayton, Joe Michaels, Gregg Adams, Mike Golden, Greg Tempalski, and Amy Lopez. The Facebook group continues to expand and add caring and talented folks from all over our state and the U.S.
On Thursday, November 9 at the Aggie Theatre in Fort Collins, the Colorado-organized statewide initiative will present #FoCo4PuertoRico, a benefit show for Puerto Rico. The show features a silent auction and music by Patti Fiasco, Maxwell Mud, Qbala, Guerrilla Radio, Undercover Bear, DJ Gyro, with Emcee – Matt Mahern.
Tax-deductible donations to the charity are accepted and all proceeds from ticket sales will go to Unidos por Puerto Rico/United for Puerto Rico, a nationally accredited 501 (c)(3) that provides humanitarian aid for those affected by Hurricanes Maria and Irma. In addition, proceeds from a silent auction going on during the event will go to the charities to provide aid for musicians in all of the affected areas, from replacing instruments to helping with housing.
