Sunshine, beer and good live music reigned supreme yesterday afternoon at Odell Brewing during one of the first few acts of FOCOMX 10. The Colorado-based band, The River Arkansas, complimented the cold beer with their country/ Americana blend of tunes. Theirs is the kind of music that makes you want to get up and dance to, which a few of the more bold members of crowd did. Everything from swing to interpretive dance was fair game, and the crowd showed no signs of slowing down even in the midday, surprisingly intense, Colorado heat. The packed patio all seemed to enjoy the fun and lively, bluesy, violin-anchored show.
Local music fan Becky Todd had never heard of The River Arkansas before this show, even though she’s been attending FOCOMX and other local music events for years. Instead of sticking to the names she knew, this year she was looking for bands she hadn’t seen yet to take in.
“This is more than just fun,” she says. “There’s a real sense of camaraderie when it comes to music. We come here and we forget about all the other stuff.”
Other guests seemed to agree. No one talked about work, instead, the collective crowd of music and beer lovers were content to just sit and be (or dance) for a moment or two.
The River Arkansas has members from all over the state and plays shows in cities scattered across the Midwest. For more information about them, you can visit their website at https://www.theriverarkansas.com/
