In today’s “work hard, play hard” culture, it can be a struggle to get the proper amount of sleep each night. If you are like the 30% of Americans who suffer from sleep deprivation, I may have a solution for you. This Sunday, May 20th, the Golden Poppy Herbal Apothecary is holding an informational course on how to improve sleeping habits through the use of plants and herbs. Sign up is required to participate, and tickets cost $25. More information regarding sign up can be found here. Staff herbalist Bria LaTona is teaching the course and it is located at 223 North College Ave.
Studies have shown that there are several types of plants that can work to improve the amount of sleep you get – some can even enhance the dreams you experience. The purpose of this class is to provide a hands-on experience in dealing with these plants and to expand general knowledge on how they can benefit your sleeping habits. The $25 fee covers the cost of the course, the materials you will use, and the herbal dream pillow you will get to design at the end of the course.
What is the Golden Poppy Herbal Apothecary?
We don’t see many apothecaries in today’s day and age, but there was a time before modern medicine where this was the primary source of all the world’s medicinal needs. The Golden Poppy Herbal Apothecary is built to carry on the tradition of holistic and herbal remedies designed to heal. Despite the undeniable effectiveness of pharmaceutical drugs, natural herbs can still be used to combat various health issues. As stated on their website, they stock, “bulk herbs and tea blends, custom herbal extract formulas, essential oils, flower essences, body care products, and more.”
The sleep and dream course is not the only class they have to offer, either.
In fact, the apothecary prides itself on “educating and empowering others with the knowledge they need to take care of their own health, naturally.” Because of this, they offer multiple classes year round. Later this month they’ll be holding a tea and painting class where you will have the opportunity to sip herbal teas and create your own masterpiece in the process. This is only one of the many services they provide. To see the list of all other scheduled classes this Summer, click here.
In a world of ever-advancing medicine, you won’t find businesses like GPHA anymore. If you are at all interested in a more natural way of dealing with health issues, this could be a great place to start.
