Youth Music Collective
Tucked into the Library Park courtyard, Kids’ Music Adventure is a festival unto itself at Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest. There, children and families can explore the Instrument Petting Zoo, participate in music workshops and listen to talented youth performers including Youth Music Collective on the Kids’ Music Adventure Stage.
Hear from some of the musicians of Youth Music Collective in this Q&A, and check out their performance at Kids’ Music Adventure on Sunday, Aug. 10!
As you’ve grown up in the Colorado music scene, how have you changed and grown as artists? What kind of role do you want to play in the music community in the future?
Kiana Mitchell: If it weren’t for the amazing music scene in Colorado – especially Fort Collins – I would be nowhere near where I am today. The Music District has helped me get awesome opportunities, meet many people, and overall become a better musician. I would love to one day inspire people with my music, as so many people around me have inspired me.
Polina Zaytseva: Music in Colorado is everywhere. And you can’t help but fall for it. I have gotten inspired countless times listening to Colorado artists, and just through these inspirations I have been able to progress my own music, whether it be to go and explore different genres of music or even just get myself out there. In the future, I want to provide those same inspirations, for my music to be able to bring people together.
What’s the most exciting part of performing at the festival?
Nathaniel Morris: Playing not just with my friends or myself but playing with the crowd and having a good time. My father and grandfather always said, “If you’re not having a good time, the crowd will see that, so have fun and enjoy yourself.”
Polina Zaytseva: The most exciting part of performing in the festival would probably be to let others hear the real me, for me to do the thing I love. I am also really excited to hear other artists perform.
As you perform on the Kids’ Music Adventure Stage for young people who might aspire to be musicians like you, what kind of advice might you give to that audience?
Kiana Mitchell: If I could give advice to young people aspiring to be musicians, I would say never stop dreaming, and don’t ever give up.
Rafael Boyle: The advice I would give is probably just to keep an open mind. There’s a lot of opportunities out there, and a lot of people to meet and things to do. You never know what might happen.
Nathaniel Morris: I’d say most days will be really tough and you will struggle but if you have determination and push on through and learn and grow there’s nothing that can stop you. Because if you love something then go after it.
Polina Zaytseva: The advice I would give is that taking risks can be frightening. But nothing is more powerful than to give your soul to doing the thing you love.
