Here and Gone is a body of work that asks the audience to contemplate the interactions of humans with the earth. Rife’s work brings to the forefront an awareness of our everyday lives and how we impact our environment and the physical markings that are left behind by changing the very characteristics of the land. Here and Gone documents that process, visually capturing the scars left upon the ground. Rife further archives the geographical coordinates that relay a global panorama beyond our immediate perspectives.
The images captured are understated and poignant. Their simplistic beauty garners attention and asks the viewer to contemplate the significance of their appeal. Here and Gone invites the audience to consider what is taken and what is left behind with the desire to create a dialogue for further inquiry.
Jennifer Rife makes her home on the high prairie of Cheyenne, Wyoming and is the Design & Exhibitions Supervisor at the Laramie County Library. Jennifer has exhibited her work throughout the United States and has won several awards, including the 2016 Wyoming Arts Council Visual Arts Fellowship. She earned her BFA in the History of Art with a studio concentration in clay at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
A lifelong Westerner, Jennifer finds that road trips around the region and exploring sites along the way provide influences and inspiration for her work.
