The New SCENE
Bowling for Beautiful Music isn’t about the rhythmic sounds of pins cascading onto a pine alley.
Rather, the family-friendly event at Chipper’s Lanes on Horsetooth is about raising money for nonprofit music education in Fort Collins. The eighth annual fundraiser includes food, a silent auction, dance and costume contests, bingo with prizes, and bowling for all ages.
All proceeds benefit Foundation Music School, which offers music lessons, group music classes and music therapy for students of all ages, abilities and income levels. Roughly 600 students take lessons and classes at FMS, located across from Chipper’s at Mason Street and Horsetooth Road. FMS teachers reach another 900 students every week through outreach programs in preschools, public elementary schools, senior centers and more.
“We are passionate about enhancing the lives of children, teens and adults through music and take very seriously our mission to provide high quality music opportunities to individuals of all ages, abilities, ethnicities and incomes in our area,” said FMS Executive Director Karen Parsell.
Bowling for Beautiful Music is the biggest fundraiser of the year for FMS. School officials hope to raise more than $10,000 to help fund scholarships, purchase and maintain instruments and equipment, and to continue to expand programming.
“As the only nonprofit music school in Fort Collins, we rely on community support to continue providing musical education and experiences,” said FMS Board President Katherine Acott.
Kids especially enjoy the funky bowling cards, which can be purchased for $10 each. Once the kids have completed the cards, which challenge them to bowl backward, bowl through an adult’s legs and much more, they can be exchanged for toys and other prizes.
Bowling for Beautiful Music runs from 4-6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, at Chipper’s Lanes, 217 W. Horsetooth Road. Reserve a full lane for $100, including two games each for six bowlers. Spots for individual bowlers cost $25. FMS also is accepting sponsorships and silent auction donations. Call 970-407-9084 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for reservations and more information.
